Notes: from Respighi’s full-length ballet, inspired by the most erotic story of the Bible, that of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba
Leonard Bernstein: Overture to Candide
Notes: inspired by French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher Voltaire’s magnum opus, Candide ou l’Optimisme. Celebrating of the 100th year of the birth of Leonard Bernstein.
David Maslanka: Symphony No. 2: A Child’s Garden of Dreams
Notes: inspired by Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung’s groundbreaking book "Man and His Symbols."
Steven Bryant: Suite Dreams
Notes: inspired by British composer Gustav Holst’s seminal work for military band, the First Suite in E-flat
Rolf Rudin: Der Traum des Oenghus (The Dream of Oenghus)
Notes: inspired by the Celtic Saga of Oenghus, the Celtic god of love, and his long search for true love
J.S. Bach: Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring
$15 general admission; $10 seniors, alumni and non-Chapman students, $5 Chapman students, faculty, and staff.
