The 2nd Annual Education & Ethnic Studies Summit will take place April 1 – 2, 2017. The Summit is a space where scholar-activists, community organizers, students, local educators, parents, and others convene to dialogue on the Ethnic Studies movement, with the goals of institutionalizing Ethnic Studies at Chapman University and in local school districts.

The 2nd Annual Education & Ethnic Studies Summit will take place April 1 – 2, 2017. The Summit is a space where scholar-activists, community organizers, students, local educators, parents, and others convene to dialogue on the Ethnic Studies movement, with the goals of institutionalizing Ethnic Studies at Chapman University and in local school districts.
This year’s theme is Activist Women of Color, and will include speakers from local (California) and international communities (Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, New Zealand) who will engage the on-going discussion about women of color, their struggles and strategies. Day 1 will be dedicated to dialogue circles and organizing strategies.
Day 2 will focus on nurturing Ethnic Studies in classrooms and education projects. Day 2 is professional development for K-12 teachers across a diversity of fields, such as Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, etc.
Participating teachers will receive FREE professional development; a conference program; and will have access to all curricular materials post-conference.
The Summit is funded by the College of Educational Studies and is supported by the following organizations: California Chapter of the National Association for Multicultural Education, Paulo Freire Democratic Project, Los Amigos, and the Ethnic Studies Now Coalition.
