General Public

Everyone is welcome to attend

From January to September 1865, Charles M. Jenkins, the only Los Angeles-area resident to see combat for the Union Army during the Civil War, kept a diary of his experiences in Virginia during and after the final days of the conflict. This remarkable document was forgotten in storage for over 60 years until it was unearthed last year. Join us to hear about this amazing story. Light refreshments will be served.

Speakers to include:

Louis Didonato
Retired educator and author of a Charles Jenkins biography.

Wayne Sherman
Drum Barracks Civil War Museum Board of Directors vice-president and collector and researcher on Charles Jenkins.

Paul R. Spitzzeri
Homestead Museum director and transcriber of the Charles Jenkins diary.
