Join us for a compelling conversation with former NFL player and author Chris Kluwe as he discusses the power and consequences of civil disobedience. Kluwe was recently handcuffed, arrested and forcibly removed from a Huntington Beach City Council meeting while opposing the use of public funds to promote MAGA ideology at the local library. In this question-and-answer session, Kluwe will share his experiences with civil disobedience, the personal and professional risks of standing up for one’s beliefs, and what it truly means to fight for democracy in today's America. Don’t miss this timely discussion on courage and the price of dissent.
While a Minnesota Viking, Kluwe set numerous records, including the highest career punting average and most punts inside the 20-yard line. He was known for his clutch punting, including a game against the New Orleans Saints where he had a critical late-game punt that contributed to a Vikings win. His outspoken support for LGBTQ+ rights and free speech put an early end to his NFL career, leading to a wrongful termination settlement in which the Vikings agreed to donate to LGBTQ+ charities and promote inclusivity in sports. Kluwe grew up in Seal Beach, California and is a graduate of Los Alamitos High School and UCLA.
