The event will be from 1:30-4:30pm in Beckman 404.
The world is evolving rapidly, creating various challenges for children, teachers, and schools regarding mental health. Changing school, political, and social dynamics and a global pandemic have led to new opportunities and threats to student’s social and emotional health, particularly youth who identify as LGBTQIA+. Significant consequences result from unsafe, non-inclusive, and non-affirming environments, including reduced academic achievement, absenteeism, increased risky behaviors, and long-term struggles with social-emotional development.
This professional development workshop aims to provide school-based professionals with resources to support their LGBTQIA+ students in addressing their mental health needs. Participants will learn about current issues and laws impacting our youth. In addition, they will enhance their ability to identify resources and create inclusive school climates to support students' mental health. Through collaborative efforts, school-based professionals can lead families, schools, and communities toward creating inclusive and supportive environments. By working together, we can facilitate the psychological well-being of all students, particularly those in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Guests must attend the entire session, as well as sign in and out, to receive the CEUS.
