Denial is adapted from Deborah Lipstadt's riveting account History on Trial: My Day in Court with a Holocaust Denier. Starring Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz as historian Deborah Lipstadt, Denial goes beyond the courtroom drama to probe the very essence of truth and justice.

Beginning in January 2000 and continuing for ten weeks, a London courtroom became the setting for a dramatic battle between truth and falsehood, historical fact and its denial, as American scholar Deborah Lipstadt and her British publisher, Penguin Books, faced off against plaintiff David Irving who alleged Lipstadt had libeled him in her 1993 book, Denying the Holocaust, by calling him a Holocaust denier. Under British law—which places the burden of proof on the defendant —Lipstadt and her team of lawyers and scholars had to prove that Irving had in fact deliberately distorted the evidence of the Holocaust and therefore the term “denier” was fact, not libel.
