February 24th, 4:00-5:15pm: Dr. Jenna Alley

Advancing LGBTQ+ Health Equity Through Biopsychosocial Research: The Importance of Social Safety.

Dr. Alley graduated from Chapman (go Panthers!) and earned her PhD from University of Utah, and is now a researcher at Stanford and UCLA.  She will be presenting a research talk about how biological processes and social stigma are connected, and how they relate to mental health among LGBTQ populations.

February 24th, 5:30pm-6:45pm: Dr. Yasmin Akbari

Understanding Minority Stress.

Dr. Akbari also graduated from Chapman (Panther pride!) and earned her PsyD from the Palo-Alto Stanford program, and now works with clients on issues related to identity development, self-esteem, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders.  She has worked with populations ranging from prisoners in San Quentin State Prison to immigrants and refugees.  Her talk will focus primarily on ethnic disparities with concepts that apply to minorities more generally.
