New Biomaterials from Hierarchically Organized Gels
Abstract:
This talk will present new work from my lab wherein we have created a fundamentally new class of material that provides hierarchical control over a wide range of length (and hence energy) scales. By leveraging the extreme softness of hydrogel microparticles, we create nanostructured bulk gels with fascinating rheological properties. These gels then form a matrix within which collagen gels can be self-assembled, yielding a composite material with both synthetic and natural components. The outlook for these structures in regenerative medicine will be presented.
