Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has surely been the most talked about tech innovation in the past year. For all of the hype surrounding the technology of ChatGPT and other Large Language Models (LLMs), making good use of generative AI tools requires understanding their strengths and limitations.

This 90-minute workshop has been created for the entire Chapman University scholarly community. We will touch upon the potential uses of ChatGPT and other LLMs in research practices across academic disciplines. In doing so, we will review known LLM limitations, such as hallucinations, and discuss how to avoid them in practice. Attendees will be exposed to practical examples of research uses that include, but are not limited to, text summarization, language translation, and data analysis.
