Dear Colleagues –

It is with mixed emotions that I write to let you know that after 20 years of exemplary service, including ten years as University Registrar, Jan McCuen is retiring July 31, 2023.

In Jan’s own words:

I’ve been at Chapman University for 20 years now. Not long after I started here construction began on the new building for Leatherby Libraries and the stunning campus improvements have never stopped. It is such a beautiful campus and one of the reasons I enjoy coming to work every day.

I have always worked in the Registrar’s office. My first position was data management specialist working with the Datatel student information system. I was a member of the Project Implementation Team (PIT) and Core Team which worked to plan and coordinate new system processes that impacted multiple offices on campus.

When John Snodgrass left his position in 2010 Dr. Jack Farrell came to Chapman University as the new University Registrar. In 2011 I was named Deputy Registrar to oversee the various technologies and processes within the Registrar’s office. Jack retired in 2012 just as Chapman University initiated the implementation of the PeopleSoft enterprise system. At that time, I was promoted to University Registrar. My first project was the implementation of the student records and academic advising modules in PeopleSoft. I have had the opportunity to serve as an ex-officio member of both the Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Councils for the past 11 years.

I have been fortunate to work with an amazing staff in the Registrar’s office. They have always been supportive of me and one another and constantly have a “can do” attitude with every task they’ve undertaken. They are my “work family” and these folks are the main reason that I enjoy coming to work every day!

Jan’s impact on the campus community is greatly recognized by all those who work with her. It’s hard to imagine the amount of change she has managed during her role as University Registrar. From the opening of the Rinker Campus to the implementation of PeopleSoft and the many committees she has served, Jan has been a constant force for positive change. What I appreciate most about Jan is her calm demeanor under any circumstance. When problems arise, Jan provides solutions.

Please join me in thanking Jan for her years of dedicated service and wishing her all the best in retirement.
