Shadow Open Market Committee Event
"Fed's Return to Normalcy"
The Shadow Open Market Committee (SOMC) will be holding its first conference on the west coast at Chapman University, June 15th, 2018. Founded in 1973 by Allan Meltzer and Karl Brunner, the members of the committee are distinguished monetary economists that study and comment on Federal Reserve policy.
The theme of the conference is the "Fed's Return to Normalcy." SOMC members Michael Bordo, Charles Calomiris, Greg Hess, Peter Ireland, and Mickey Levy will present position papers on central banking and monetary policy. The discussants for the papers are David Andolfatto, Mark Carlson, Charlie Kahn, Michael Klein, and William Lastrapes.
The keynote address will be given by Andy Atkeson of UCLA. The title of Professor Atkeson's talk is "Government Guarantees and the Valuation of American Banks." The conference is free and open to the public.
