The Institute for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (IETL) is excited to announce we will be working with EdTechTeam USA to offer a full-day faculty workshop in the use of the Google Suite in Higher Education on Friday, January 19, 2018, on the Orange Campus. Speaking as a faculty member who attended training two years ago and has piloted use of the Google Suite with my classes before this year's roll out to all Chapman faculty, I can share that its integration into my teaching has dramatically changed my instructional practice and resulted in demonstrated student learning gains.

A certified provider of faculty development in Google Suite will be joining us to facilitate this special event. We will learn about how the tools in the Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Forms, Slides, Sites, YouTube, and Drive) foster collaboration between all members of the classroom community to maximize student learning and faculty productivity.

Due to the hands-on nature of the workshop, attendance will be limited to 25 faculty members who must apply in advance and will be selected based on representative participation from all schools/colleges on both campuses.

Faculty members interested in attending must do the following:

  • Express interest no later than December 8 by submitting this brief application (Google Form).
  • Make a firm commitment to attend on January 19, if selected.
  • After attending, be willing to share their knowledge with faculty members in their school/college who may have questions about using the Google Suite, and serve in an advisory capacity to future Google Suite professional development efforts at Chapman.

Individuals at all levels of current expertise with Google Suite are welcome to apply. Those with no prior experience with Google Suite should plan, if selected, to complete a few online tutorials provided by IETL prior to January 19, so they are familiar with the purpose of each platform and how to log in and create files that participants will work on during the event. All faculty members who express interest will be notified no later than December 15 of whether they have been selected to attend.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me via email at rgmiller@chapman.edu. We hope you’ll consider attending and exploring these options to support student learning.
