John Wallis, Ph.D. - Impersonal Rules and Relational Contracts
Description: This paper is based on a preliminary version of a chapter in my book Leviathan Denied: Governments, Rules, Organizations, and Social Dynamics.
Bio: Professor Wallis is an economic historian who specializes in the public finance of American governments, constitutions, and the institutional development of governments and economies.
He is the Mancur Olson Professor of Economics, at the University of Maryland. He is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research. In addition to numerous articles, Professor Wallis published Violence and Social Orders: A Conceptual Framework for Interpreting Recorded Human History with Douglass North and Barry Weingast. He edited Organizations, Civil Society and the Roots of Development with Naomi Lamoreaux.
