Hailing from Russia’s fabled Mariinsky Theatre, Artistic and General Director Valery Gergiev will give a talk moderated by Conductor Daniel Alfred Wachs, Chapman University Associate Professor and Director of Orchestral Activities, at 3pm. Maestro Gergiev will speak about his esteemed work and the future of classical music prior to introducing a recital by his mentees, the award-winning Fellows of the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky.
Fellows of the Atkins Young Artists Program at Mariinsky in Recital, which begins at 4pm, will feature Dmitry Grigoriev, bass, Vladislav Kupriyanov, baritone, and Anastasia Schegoleva, soprano performing a mixed program of Italian and Russian opera arias and Russian romances that form the basis of the classical Mariinsky repertoire. Myra Huang will accompany the singers with the program’s master coach and advisor, Craig Rutenberg, on piano. Mr. Rutenberg was formerly Director of Music Administration at the Metropolitan Opera from 2006 to 2015.
