Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art created in the early 20th century. It is said that Aikido strives for the ultimate goal of peaceful resolution of conflict rather than defeating an opponent. In this workshop Dr. Andrea Molle will offer an Aikido demonstration and critically explore the balance and contradictions between its formal commitment to Peace and the practice of violence.

Dr. Molle (Political Science) conducts research on martial arts. He also practices several disciplines including Aikido, Naginata, and Yagyu Shinkage Ryu. At Chapman University he is the Lead Scientist at BUDO-lab and teaches Aikido classes through the Athletics Department.
