The Fall 2017 Magna Mentor Series presented by IETL

Commit 20 minutes a week to improve your teaching & students’ learning

This fall, the IETL is highlighting one video per week from our 20-Minute Mentor series in the IETL’s Magna Campus. We encourage faculty members to watch the video on your own or during group viewings with colleagues (and free coffee) in the IETL Collaboration Room on the Orange Campus. Fall 2017’s videos include the following:

  • How can I avoid communication misfires with my students? (Week of Sept. 4)
  • How can I engage Generation C (a.k.a. Generation Z or iGen)? (Week of Sept. 11)
  • How can I get students to take responsibility for their own learning? (Week of Sept. 18)
  • Is there a solution to students multitasking in class? (Week of Sept. 25)
  • How do I align learning objectives with technology using backwards design? (Week of Oct. 2)
  • How can I implement Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the next 20 minutes? (Week of Oct. 9)
  • How can I make my course content more accessible? (Week of Oct. 16)
  • What are the secrets to making highly effective educational videos? (Week of Oct. 23)
  • How can I help students develop critical thinking skills? (Week of Oct. 30)
  • What are the secrets to providing highly effective feedback to students? (Week of Nov. 6)
  • How do I create ideal assessments for modern learners? (Week of Nov. 13)
  • How can I make my exams more about learning, less about grades? (Week of Nov. 27)
  • What should I do when a student cheats? (Week of Dec. 4)

To watch on your own, access the IETL Blackboard Organization, Teaching Resources from the IETL at www.chapman.edu/ietl.  Click on 24/7 Magna Campus in the left toolbar and then follow the instructions. All videos are found in 20-Minute Mentors under Seminar Libraries; use the Search tool to locate them by title.

Group viewings in the IETL Collaboration Room (Beckman Hall 108) will be held weekly on Mondays at 2 p.m., Wednesdays at 4 p.m.,

and Thursdays at 11 a.m.
