Denim Day
Wear Jeans with a Purpose / CARES
Wednesday, April 26, 2017
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. PST
TRIGGER WARNING:
An 18-year old woman was assaulted. The perpetrator was arrested, prosecuted, and convicted. He appealed the sentence and the case was overturned. The judge said it was consensual because her jeans were too tight. Enraged by the verdict, women protested by wearing jeans to work. This call to action motivated the California Senate and Assembly to do the same, which in turn spread to the Executive Director of Peace Over Violence, and Denim Day in LA was born. The first Denim Day in LA was in April 1999, and has continued every year since.
